Nawaz to raise K-issue with Obama: Basit to Mirwaiz

Chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today met Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit in Delhi.

Nawaz to raise K-issue with Obama - Basit to MirwaizDuring the meeting, Basit told Mirwaiz that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s four-point agenda on the resolution of the Kashmir issue was a “step in the direction” for the resumption of the dialogue process, Hurriyat said in a statement, while sharing details of the meeting today.

Mirwaiz was in Delhi to attend a round table conference, organised by the Centre for Policy Analysis, where he was one of the speakers on Monday.

“However, the Pakistan High Commissioner termed New Delhi’s politics of rigidness and delaying tactics for keeping the Kashmir resolution pending as unfortunate,” the statement said, adding that Basit told Mirwaiz that during the Pakistan PM’s upcoming visit to the United States, Nawaz Sharif would raise the Kashmir issue and impress upon US President Barack Obama and other personalities in the US Government to extend their full cooperation and play a role towards the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

“Basit told the All Party Hurriyat Conference chairman that Islamabad was duty-bound to play its role in the final settlement of the Kashmir issue and believes that the participation of Kashmiri leadership while engaging with New Delhi on Kashmir was a must for any positive outcome,” the statement added.

The Hurriyat statement further said the Pakistan High Commissioner expressed concern over the “rise of divisive and communal forces” in Jammu and Kashmir and their “efforts to polarise” the state for their own petty political interests.
