Employees demand Zargar’s removal, Police swung into action
The Non Gazetted Employees Welfare Association (NGEWA) at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has castigated the attitude of the state government and the Director, SKIMS who have “failed to deliberate with the representatives of the association” despite Early this morning, police entered the SKIMS compound and arrested leaders of the association for fear of a protest by the employees “on directions of Director SKIMS”.
On Tuesday also NGEWA held an hour long protest in the hospital premises demanding removal of Director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences.
Abdul Rehman, President NGEWA said disbanding our association by the director is illegal.
The employees accused the Director of embezzling funds and ruining hospital administration.
“Earlier, free food was being provided to the patients admitted here. The facilities of medical tests were also provided free of cost but that has now become history. We had a blood lab here but that has been made defunct and patients are being compelled to buy ‘blood-culture-wire’ from outside. There is a deep nexus between the Director and private lab owners,” the employees alleged.
“Doctors are free to come anytime whether 10 or 12 and director will say nothing to them but he is hell bent to destroy our opinion,” said Shabir Hussain, spokesperson of the Association.
The spokesperson said they had conveyed all their demands to DC Srinagar and DIG but even then “they have turned their eyes blind.”
NGEWA was formed in 1986 with three objectives: Welfare of employees, patient care and institution care. Earlier this year, Director SKIMS disbanded the association on 25 July.
The elections of the association are held every two years. Dr Showkat Ali Zargar, Director SKIMS, could not be contacted for his comments.
