Massive protests erupted in old Srinagar areas on Tuesday soon after the curfew was lifted after 17 days.
Local sources said that police and para-military personnel used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters who were raising anti-India slogans.
They said that as soon as curfew was lifted in the old city areas people came on roads and alleged that men in uniform have smashed hundreds of residential houses and parked vehicles during last 16 days of curfew. They said dozens of youth have also been arrested.
As the people started protesting police and para-military troopers swung into action resulting in clashes at many places.
A procession was tear-gassed near Babademb area of the city.
Sources said that revolutionary songs are being played from mosques on loud speakers.
Reports of protests have also reached from Noorbagh, Nawakadal, Natipora, Rambagh and Chanepora.
Curfew was relaxed in Srinagar after 17 days today. It was clamped soon after protests started in the valley against the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8.
More than 50 civilians have so far lost their lives and more than 3500 injured in government forces actions in the valley during more than last two weeks.
