Indian cricket team’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup has been revealed, and there are some big changes from the team that played in the 2019 World Cup.
The biggest surprise is the inclusion of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan, who have both been in excellent form in recent months. Rahul has been in top form in all formats of the game, while Kishan has been a revelation in the IPL.
Another surprise is the exclusion of Sanju Samson, who was a member of the 2019 World Cup squad. Samson has struggled for form in recent months, and he has been overtaken by Kishan in the pecking order.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin have also been excluded from the squad. Both spinners have been in good form in recent months, but the selectors have opted to go with a more pace-heavy attack.
The full squad is as follows:
- Rohit Sharma (captain)
- Shikhar Dhawan
- Virat Kohli
- Suryakumar Yadav
- KL Rahul
- Ishan Kishan
- Hardik Pandya
- Ravindra Jadeja
- Shardul Thakur
- Jasprit Bumrah
- Mohammed Shami
- Mohammed Siraj
The squad also includes two reserve players:
- Prasidh Krishna
- Kuldeep Yadav
The World Cup will be held in India from October 5 to 23, 2023. India will be the defending champions, having won the title in 2011.
The squad is a good mix of experience and youth, and it should be well-equipped to challenge for the title. However, the team will need to find a way to get the best out of its spinners, who have been the weak link in recent years.
