BJP told to clear stand on Articles 35A, 370: PIL

Dilly-dallying on the abrogation of Articles 35A and 370 amounts to “murdering people’s mandate and negating Preamble of the Indian Constitution”.

“The abrogation of these Articles, constitution of a Delimitation Commission to give the Jammu province due representation in the Assembly and implementation of the March 12, 2018, Supreme Court order passed in the PIL titled Ankur Sharma vs Union of India and Ors regarding the identification/notification of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians as minorities in J&K have become imperative,” said Ankur Sharma, chairman, Ikkjutt Jammu, adding that the patience of people of the Jammu province was ending, and ending very fast.

At a press conference on Thuesday, Sharma said the Central and the state governments had been illegally conferring all minority benefits to a particular community for decades. He said the people of the Jammu province hoped that the BJP would fulfil its commitments on Articles 35A and 370 and constitute a delimitation commission to redraw the Assembly constituencies de novo to dispense justice to the socially, economically and politically ignored people of the Jammu province. The less-than-positive attitude of the powers-that-be in the state and at the Centre had only shocked the people of the Jammu province.
“Injustice in perpetuity should stop immediately,” said Ankur Sharma.

He said any delay on part of the authorities to abrogate Articles 35A and 370, appoint delimitation commission and constitute Minority Commission would not be tolerated.
