Congress banners flooded within BJP rally venue in Jammu

The BJP leadership faced a piquant situation on Wednesday as one portion of the venue where party’s national chief Amit Shah addressed an election rally was facing two houses flooded with banners, flags and posters of Congress leaders.

The two houses belong to senior Congress leader Ashwani Khajuria, who had intentionally covered them with flexes of party stalwarts.

Interestingly, the stage where all senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, were sitting was facing the houses.

“As our house is situated just in front of the stage prepared for Amit Shah’s rally, local BJP leaders forcibly fixed party’s banners, posters, flags and flexes without taking us into confidence,” Khajuria, whose wife Preeti Khajuria is also a Congress corporator from ward number 1 of Udhampur municipal council, told The Tribune. “When we asked them to remove these flexes, they refused,” he said and added that a written complaint had already been lodged with the authorities concerned against BJP leaders for violating the model code of conduct. “How can BJP leaders install flexes and posters on our house?” he asked.

Annoyed over the “arrogant attitude” of local BJP leaders, Khajuria immediately asked his party leaders to send election material and installed flags, banners and hoardings on his houses.

Khajuria’s house is situated along side Subash Stadium where Amit Shah’s rally was held. “As this venue is used by political parties for rally, we never object to fixing of flags or banners on our house but it was all due to the attitude of BJP leaders that we not only lodged a complaint but also installed Congress’s promotion material on our houses during BJP’s rally,” Khajuria added.
