Scores injured in clashes during CASO in Kulgam

At least thirty people were injured, one of them critically, in clashes with government forces during a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Khudwani area in Kulgam district on Monday.
Six of the injured had metal pellet injuries in eyes.
Scores of youth took to streets and clashed with the forces who had launched a CASO in Lone Mohala, Khudwani, in the afternoon probably after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.
The forces fired tear gas and pellets to chase away the protesters who were trying to disrupt the search operation.
Rakeeb Ahmad Wagay, 18, of RedwaniPaayeen was hit by a tear gas shell in his head. He was shifted to district hospital Anantnag where doctors referred him to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment, said a health official. Medical superintendent SMHS Hospital DrSaleemTak said, “He is under treatment and his condition is stable.”
A doctor at sub-district hospital Qaimoh confirmed that 25 persons with metal pellet injuries were brought to the facility for treatment.
“Six of them had pellet injuries in eye and were shifted to district hospital Anantnag,” he said.
Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in Kulgam district against the killings of three militants in a gunfight in WaniMohalla, Khudwani, on Sunday.
Shops in Qaimoh, Kulgam and Yaripora areas remained shut and movement of traffic remained thin.

Daylong CASO in Rathsuna, Tral
Government forces on Monday cordoned off Rathsuna village of Tral in district Pulwama and conducted door-to-door searches for nearly the entire day. Though the searches were conducted probably after receiving inputs about the presence of militants, the government forces could find no militant.

CASO in Shopian village
Clashes broke out in Herman village of Shopian district between local residents and government forces who had started a cordon-and-search operation on Monday afternoon.
A police official said soldiers, policemen and paramilitary soldiers laid a siege around Herman village and started door-to-door search operation after being tipped off about the presence of militants in the area.
During the operation, scores of youth pelted the forces with stones, the official said.
“The forces responded by firing teargas canisters and pellets causing minor injuries to a few youth,” he added.
An official at Primary Health Centre Herman said that they received three youths with superficial metal pellet injuries.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Post that the operation was called off as no militant was found in the area.
