The Public Service Commission on Monday declared the results of J&K Combined Civil Services Examination (KAS) 2014 in which a Surankote boy, Anjum Bashir Khan Khattak, secured the top position.
In the selection list no candidate from the Kashmir Valley fares in the list of top 10 and 70 percent of the total selected candidates are from Jammu division. Among others who made it to the list include Irtiza Jeelani of Illahi Bagh, Faizan Ali of Raj Bagh and Humayun Muzzammil of Humhama.
Scoring, 1514.33 marks in his first attempt, Anjum Bashir Khan Khattak is a Bachelor of Technology (Computer Science) student from Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. Talking to Kashmir Post, Anjum said that it has been his father, a retired lecturer, and his mother, a teacher, who have played the pivotal role in his achievement. He said that qualifying KAS was his aim since 8-th standard and he hasn’t opted for any coaching to crack the examination.
Anjum is followed by Aliya Tabassum of Kishtwar and Fareed Ahmad of Bhaderwah who have secured second and third ranks respectively.
A total of 171 aspirants had appeared in the interview of KAS held in November this year. Earlier the written examination for 51 posts was held this year in February with 938 candidates appearing in all papers.
As many as 20,180 students had applied for the preliminary examination held in 2015 among which 12, 145 had appeared. Among the candidates 1258 were declared selected for the mains examination which was held in February, but only 938 appeared in all the papers.
In October the Commission declared the list of 175 candidates for the interview among which the 171 appeared and 51 have made it to the selection list.
