Winter sets in, city’s overnight temperature drops to -3.1°C

The minimum temperature overnight in the city plunged to minus 3.1 degrees Celsius as residents face the early arrival of winter’s cold.
The overnight minimum temperature in the city made it one of the coldest November nights of Srinagar in the last decade, officials of Meteorological Department said. It also marked an early arrival of winter’s cold in the region even as residents have a tough time putting up with frequent power outages.
The night time temperature in the city has been falling below the freezing point for almost a week but the overnight minimum temperature was a departure of three degrees from the normal for this time of the year.
The Meteorological Department said the minimum temperature in the city is likely to drop further to same freezing levels in the coming nights.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the sparsely populated and remote Leh district of the Ladakh region dropped to minus 13.2 degrees Celsius overnight, making it the coldest night of the season so far in the region.
In Gulmarg resort of north Kashmir, the minimum temperature dropped to a low of minus 6 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees lower than the average. The Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir also recorded a freezing night with the minimum temperature falling to minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, the department said.

This has marked an early arrival of cold in the region even as residents are jostling with with frequent power outages.
