The factionalism in the BJP came to the fore when a majority of the party leaders gave a miss to the official Independence Day function in which Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh was the chief guest.
Although leaders of all political parties, including the Opposition, were present in the function held at Parade Ground, Jammu, prominent BJP leaders were conspicuous by their absence. Even local MLA Rajesh Gupta, in whose constituency the function was held, was not present on the occasion.
Highly placed sources said the state BJP unit was ridden with groupism amid unconfirmed reports of reshuffle in the Council of Ministers from the party quota.
A lobby comprising some legislators has been mounting pressure on the leadership to drop some ‘incapable’ ministers and induct new and honest faces.
During the last two months, the lobby has been availing itself of every opportunity to highlight the failures of BJP ministers.
