3rd Intl Yoga Day observed across Jammu, Rain fails to dampen fervour

On 3rd International Yoga Day today, incessant rain played a spoilsport but it failed to dampen the spirit of the participants.
Various departments, organisations and educational institutes had organised yoga sessions this morning, in which participants performed asanas to stay mentally and physically fit.
The International Yoga Day Coordination Committee, Jammu, in collaboration with the AYUSH Department today celebrated the day at Brahman Sabha, Parade. The venue for the event was Mini Stadium but due to continuous rain, it was shifted to nearby Brahman Sabha.
Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, BJP state president Sat Sharma, Minister for Health Bali Bhagat, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and a large number of prominent citizens performed various asanas at the venue.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board had organised a mega yoga event at its sports complex at Katra. The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, CEO of the board. The CEO felicitated Class IV student Akriti and Class VIII student Paryas for their yoga performance by presenting them mementos.
At Hargovind Bhatnagar Stadium on the BSF’s Paloura Campus, around 1,500 officers and men of the BSF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB bent, stretched and twisted at a yoga session amid rain this morning.
Meanwhile, the 76-B and 160 Battalions of the CRPF celebrated International Yoga Day at Channi Himmat Park here.
In Kargil, the day was observed at the Project Vijayak Headquarters of the BRO. All officers and officials of the organisation participated in the event.
The Army also organised asanas at Helipad Kargil during which Commander, 121 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier TK Chopra was the chief guest, who performed yoga along with Army men.
A yoga camp was organised in Udhampur district under the aegis of the Northern Command Headquarters at Bikram Park. Around 1,500 soldiers attended the event.
The White Knight Corps also celebrated the day. All ranks stationed at the Nagrota Garrison and along the Line of Control performed yoga at their respective units under the supervision of trained yoga instructors this morning. Lt Gen AK Sharma, GOC, White Knight Corps, also participated in the yoga session.
A total of 400 personnel of the Air Force Station, Jammu, did yoga and meditation today.
The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation celebrated the day at its regional office in Jammu. The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) organised a programme at its temporary academic block, Sainik Colony. The programme was organised by the Yoga Centre of the university, in which Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, was the chief guest while Prof Ashok Aima, CUJ, Vice Chancellor, presided over the function. Certificates and mementos were distributed to schools, NGOs and individuals who were part of the yoga camp.
At Kendriya Vidyalaya No, 1 here, principal, teachers and students participated in a yoga event and performed asanas. Children were educated about the importance of yoga in daily life.
At Army Public School, Akhnoor, teachers, NCC cadets and parents performed asanas under the guidance of yoga master Anita Gupta.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nagrota, celebrated the day with enthusiasm. Principal, staff, and students performed asanas.
At Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, a seminar was organised, which was attended by staff and students who were made aware about the importance of the day.
