Normal life hit in Chenab Valley as protests reach Jammu regionWith anger over the killing of protesters in retaliatory action by security forces in the Valley spilling over adjoining Chenab Valley in Jammu region, people observed bandh in Banihal and Bhaderwah disrupting normal life in parts of Chenab Valley.
Giving details, sources said that all the shops and other business establishments remained closed in Banihal town and adjoining villages for the second consecutive day. To express solidarity with the agitating people of the valley, decision to abide by five day hartal calendar issued by “joint resistance leadership’’ in Kashmir was taken by local Beopar Mandal and Imam of Jamia Masjid in Banihal town.
All the private educational institutions remained closed and vehicular traffic off the roads during the day. The attendance in government run educational institutions and offices were thin, sources said.
Meanwhile, people in Banihal town also observed bandh to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir who have been protesting over the killing of protesters in retaliatory action by security forces during violence which broke out after the elimination of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. The call for bandh was given by local Anjuman-e-Islamia, sources said, adding that no untoward incident was reported from any place during the bandh,
The cross LoC trade at Chakkan Da Bagh in Poonch remained suspended by the third week in view of ongoing violence in Kashmir. Sources said that authorities in PoK have letter to Custodian LoC trade at Chakkan Da Bagh saying that they will not be doing any trade in order to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena activists led by their state president Dimpy Kohli held demonstration at Rajbagh in Kathua district against Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh for describing the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani an accident. The Shiv Sena activists held a dharna on the national highway blocking vehicular traffic for some time. Kohli said that army was doing a commendable job in Kashmir and they have achieved a major success by killing dreaded terrorist Burhan Wani.
