45 Dead, 3300 Injured, 113 Eye Surgeries, Arrest spree continues across ValleyOne more person was killed raising the death toll to 45. Reports say that mob stormed 14RR camp at Saderkot Ajas in Bandipora district. Troops fired in which one civilian was killed and 3 were injured. The 3 injured are stable now. Official confirmation is awaited.
Meanwhile, reliable sources said the State government has sought extra force from New Delhi to maintain law and order in the State in view of continued protests in the Valley. “Nine charter planes of paramilitary forces arrived at Srinagar airport from New Delhi. Each charter plane was carrying 180 paramilitary forces,” sources said.
Kashmir has seen its worst agitation since 2010 when almost 120 people were killed. So far over 3,400 persons including 1,500 security personnel have been injured. Among the injured 125 people were injured due to bullets; over 90 people underwent major surgeries in addition to 639 people who were injured with stones. Reports also said that over 90 ambulances have been damaged so far. 8 people in SKIMS and SMHS are severely critical and doctors say may not survive. The number of people critically injured is over 300.
Over 113 eye surgeries have also been performed due to pellet injuries and doctors fear that many may lose their eye sight either partially or completely. Pellets have been a menace in this turmoil and many believe this weapon made for beasts should be banned.
Meanwhile, hundreds of youth have been arrested by the Jammu Kashmir Police across Kashmir following the violent protests that erupted after the killing of Commander Burhan Wani.
Sources said hundreds of youth have been detained in volatile Sopore town since Friday evening. Similar reports of arrests from Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Srinagar, Baramulla, Pattan, Kupwara and Handwara are also reported.
Jammu Kashmir Police has been on forefront in arresting the youth from various towns, and villages across Kashmir.
Most of the youth have been arrested during the night raids.
