RSS stitches alliance back into shape

RSS stitches alliance back into shapeWith Mehbooba Mufti set to head the PDP-BJP government in the state, it has become clear that the Sangh Parivar has played a very crucial role in restitching the alliance, which virtually looked impossible at one point of time.
The presence of RSS ‘prant karyawah’ (state general secretary) Parshotam Dedechi in today’s crucial meeting of BJP legislators to elect the Legislature Party leader was an indication that the Sangh Parivar had stepped in to give its seal on the PDP-BJP coalition in the only Muslim-majority state of the country.
Dedechi was especially sent by the Sangh Parivar to the meeting to give a clear message to BJP legislators that the Sangh Parivar had endorsed the party’s decision to continue its alliance with the PDP under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti.
Since the imposition of Governor’s rule, state BJP leaders had given their consent to government formation. After Mehbooba Mufti toughened her stand, things looked impossible because the saffron party could not dare to accept preconditions of the PDP president.
At that crucial juncture, the Sangh Parivar had stepped in to ask the BJP to continue its “experiment of government” with a party whose ideology was diametrically opposite to that of the saffron party.
“It was due to the Sangh Parivar’s green signal that BJP leaders facilitated Mehbooba Mufti’s meeting with the Prime Minister to remove the logjam in government formation,” said a source.
“Without the consent of the Sangh Parivar, it was not possible for the BJP to take the risk of forming a government with Mehbooba Mufti,” the source said.
Meanwhile, after the smooth election of Sangh loyalist Nirmal Singh as BJP Legislature Party leader, Ram Madhav, BJP national general secretary, straightway went to meet RSS ‘prant pracharak’ Ramesh Pappa to discuss modalities and composition of the new dispensation.
Sources said a thorough discussion was held on composition of the new government during the closed-door meeting, which lasted over two hours and was later joined by some top leaders of the BJP and RSS.
The sources said the RSS asked the BJP to tread cautiously because the incumbent PDP leadership was not as mature as Mufti Sayeed.
