Two men detained for helping cop decamp with rifle

Two men detained for helping cop decamp with rifleThe Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained two persons from central Kashmir’s Budgam district who were in touch with police follower Riyaz Ahmed.
Riyaz had decamped with a rifle from a police station in Srinagar last week and was later arrested.
Sources said Farooq Ahmad and Gulzar Parray, both residents of Kondoora in the Beerwah area of Budgam, had been detained for questioning as they were constantly in touch with Riyaz.
“We are questioning the duo. They surely have a role in the escape of the police follower who had planned to join the Lashkar-e-Toiba,” a police source said.
“Before the police follower fled, he was in touch with the duo,” the source added.
Police follower Riyaz, a resident of the Khan Sahib area of Budgam district, had fled from the Rainawari police station in Srinagar’s old city along with a rifle of police constable Showkat Ahmed on February 6.
After Riyaz went missing, the police registered a case against him and launched a search to nab him. He was arrested a day later in the Khan Sahib. The police also recovered the weapon stolen by him which he had kept at another place.
