The much-awaited meeting of Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti scheduled with party leaders of Jammu province on February 3 has been cancelled.
Instead of holding the meeting with all leaders, Mehbooba Mufti will hold a one-on-one interaction with some senior leaders during her three-day stay in Jammu to discuss the prevailing political situation in the state.
Highly placed sources said the PDP president would reach Jammu on February 2 and during her stay at the winter capital she will meet only some senior leaders to seek their opinion about the performance of the PDP-BJP coalition government during its 10 months of governance.
“Earlier the party president had convened a meeting of senior party workers, candidates who had contested the 2014 Assembly elections and zonal presidents on February 3 at Jammu to discuss the latest developments in the state, including getting feedback from them on government formation. Now, the party president has decided to meet only some senior leaders of Jammu province,” a senior PDP leader said on condition of anonymity.
The PDP president, a source said, would hold an interaction with only those leaders who have been associated with the PDP since its formation. Sources, however, said the meeting at Srinagar would be held as per schedule on January 31 in which all senior leaders of Kashmir province, including candidates of the Assembly elections, would participate.
The sources said Mehbooba would discuss organisation matters with the senior leaders of Jammu province.
“Mehbooba Mufti’s brother Tassaduq Mufti is also likely to visit Jammu to hold an interaction with local leaders,” a source said. “Since the state is under Governor’s rule, the venue for the interaction with party leaders will not be at the Chief Minister’s residence on the Wazarat Road,” the source added.
On January 17, the PDP had formally convened a party meeting to discuss the political situation in the state after the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The meeting had authorised Mehbooba Mufti to take a final call on formation of the government.
