‘Killer Kebabs’ on sale in KashmirThe Food Safety Department has seized nearly three quintal unsafe packaged Kebabs that have entered from unknown manufacturers in Kashmir and circulated in the markets.
Officials told that a special market checking squad of the department today confiscated a huge supply of illegally marketed and unhygienic Kebabs.
“The Kebabs mostly made of mutton, chicken and fish products are being sold in Tengpora, Karan Nagar, Khayam, Chattabal, Bemina, Chanapora and other market areas. However, the packaging and ingredients are unsafe and illegal,” said Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Hilal Ahmad Mir.
He said that the illegal food products came from some unknown manufacturers from various states.
“These Kebabs are being distributed to entire Kashmir through three dealers Iqra Fish Point in Tengpora, Kaloo Fish Agency and Bismillah Fish trading in Chattabal. We have seized their whole supply and took samples for testing,” Mir said.
According to him the department has intensified its monitoring of illegal food products during the winter months.
Talking to us, Mir said that during the winter, demand for such food was on the rise and so people took advantage of the situation by selling illegal products.
“This time we have done seizures only. We have sent the samples for testing and waiting for the results after which the legal action will follow,” he added.
