Cold conditions further intensified in the Kashmir region as the mercury overnight dropped several degrees below the freezing point.
Kashmir shivers as mercury slides furtherIn Srinagar, the minimum temperature was recorded at -5.2 degrees Celsius causing a snowy cold in the city. The overnight temperature had frozen parts of the Dal Lake’s surface as the city recorded one of the coldest nights of the season.
The mercury in Gulmarg resort of north Kashmir plunged to a low of minus 10.2 degrees Celsius while the minimum in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam resort dropped to minus 8.0 degrees Celsius, an official of the state Met Department said.
In Qazigund town in south Kashmir, the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, while the mercury dropped to a low of minus 4.2 degrees in north Kashmir’s frontier Kupwara town.
In Leh town of remote Ladakh region, the minimum temperature fell to a low of minus 16.2 degrees Celsius and minus 15.0 in its adjoining Kargil town.– TNS
The Kashmir region is in the midst of a cold climatic condition as the 40-day-long winter’s harshest phase began on Monday this week.
