Don’t hold us guilty for Gowhar’s death: CRPF

Don’t hold us guilty for Gowhar’s death - CRPFDays after it was reported that police has registered an attempt to murder case against Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for killing Gowhar Ahmad Dar of Musatafabad HMT, Inspector General of CRPF, Atul Karwal, Wednesday said the paramilitary force cannot be held responsible till the investigation is not completed.
“It will be wrong to say that CRPF was involved in the killing of Mustafaabad youth.  I can tell you that police FIR is not against the CRPF but it is the legal requirement when somebody comes to police and lodges a complaint. I suggest that we should wait till the magisterial inquiry reveals the facts,” Karwal said.
Police has claimed to have registered attempt to murder case against the CRPF for killing of a pedestrian (Gowhar) and not a stone-thrower in Mustafaabad area of Srinagar on Saturday.
Dar, an engineering student of SSM, died after being hit by a teargas shell during slashes on November 7 in Zainakote area in the outskirts of Srinagar.
Karwal said CRPF is also probing the incident. “CRPF is also investigating the incident. It needs to be properly investigated. Our camp was pelted with stones. We had reports that the mob tried to enter the camp and also damaged a boundary wall. There is no doubt that the incident was unfortunate. But I must tell you that our forces did not violate any SOP while dealing with the law and order problem,” he said.
He said that if at all any CRPF man is found involved, action will be taken against him according to law.  (KNS)
