Meteorological dept warns of heavy rain across stateThe weather department on Friday issued a forecast of moderate to heavy rain across J&K and snow over mountains forfour days from Saturday. It warned that the rain may trigger landslides and disrupt surface and air traffic.

The downpour will be caused by a stormy western disturbance which is approaching the region, and is likely to cause an impact from Saturday afternoon, says a warning bulletin issued by the state Meteorological Department.

The stormy weather will continue to have an impact over the state for four days from Saturday afternoon to Tuesday forenoon. The main impact will be on Sunday and Monday.

The department said that under the influence of the stormy weather system, “moderate to heavy” rain and thundershower will occur at places in Kashmir and Jammu divisions and at many places in Ladakh. Snowfall is expected over the higher reaches.

“Some places may receive heavy rain and snow during this period,” the department said, adding that the weather condition “may trigger landslides and blockage” of roads in vulnerable areas of the state, particularly along the Srinagar-Jammu highway, Srinagar-Leh highway and Leh-Manali road.
