Zojila Pass reopens for traffic; 800 stranded vehicles move towards Sonamarg

After four days of closure, Srinagar-Leh Highway today reopened for vehicular traffic. The road was closed on 5th November after heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass. Hundreds of vehicles and passengers were stranded on both sides of the pass. In Drass many non-Ladakhi drivers were anxiously waiting for the opening of the road. District Police Kargil today informed that more than 800 vehicles were allowed to move from Drass to Sonamarg on Sunday amid severe cold. Srinagar-Leh road closed, vehicles stranded

The highway, connecting Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley, was closed on Tuesday following overnight snowfall at several places, reports said. Snowfall occurred at Zojilla and other areas on the highway since last night, forcing authorities to suspend traffic on the road. Sources said hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the Zojila pass after the road was closed.
