Telecom companies leave Bandipora roads damaged

The roads here in Bandipora maintained by Border Roads Organization (BRO) have been severely damaged by the telecom companies leading to traffic jams and increasing the risk of mishaps. Local residents alleged that BRO has failed to take action against the telecom companies which have dug roads to lay the cables and have left them unrepaired. The residents have to pour on to the streets to protest the delay over construction of roads. Twenty-eight years after she was allegedly gang-raped, a middle-aged woman has recorded her statement in a court in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. She was 17 when four men allegedly abducted her from home in Nadihal area of Bandipora district on June 3, 1987, according to the complaint. Suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants today gunned down Police Sub-Inspector Altaf Ahmed, who was considered a key operational man and credited with smashing of many militant hideouts and arrest and killing of terrorists on the basis of intelligence generated by him. The farmers of Bandipora in north Kashmir Friday alleged that some unknown persons destroyed their harvested paddy crop by setting it ablaze last night. At least seven heaps of paddy belonging to four different families at Ward No. 4 Bandipora were set on fire by unknown persons, they said. Five unidentified militants were killed as the Army foiled a fresh infiltration attempt in north Kashmir.
