Governor NN Vohra today intimated PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and BJP state unit president Sat Sharma to meet him on March 25. The meetings with the two leaders have been scheduled separately, said a Raj Bhawan spokesperson. The meetings have been scheduled following Mehbooba’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The PDP chief had termed her meeting with the Prime Minister as “very positive”.
The Governor’s communication to the two leaders assumes importance in the backdrop of the PDP legislature party meet on Thursday. The meeting is likely to elect Mehbooba as the leader of the group.
Meanwhile, the core group meeting of state unit of the BJP was held this evening to chalk out future course of action.
The core group members discussed political situation following Mehbooba’s meeting with the Prime Minister.
State BJP president Sat Sharma told that the party had received a communication from Raj Bhawan to meet Governor on Friday.
“A group of BJP leaders will meet the Governor on Friday,” Sharma said, adding that they will inform the Governor about the party’s stand on prevailing political situation in the state.
When asked whether the party would hand over letter of support to the PDP during the meeting, Sharma said: “It is too early to say anything.”
The PDP and BJP delegations had separate meetings with Governor on February 2. It was followed by BJP leaders’ meeting with Vohra on March 2.
Mehbooba later met the Governor on March 4 and discussed the political and developmental scenario in the state.
She had been invited for an informal meeting by the Governor and had called on Vohra in response to the communication.
Jammu and Kashmir was placed under Governor’s rule on January 8 after Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death on January 7.
The PDP, which was ruling the state in a coalition with the BJP, did not come forward to stake claim to form the new government. A political stalemate between the PDP and the BJP over government formation in the state has been continuing for nearly two and a half months.
It is widely believed that after Mehbooba’s meeting with the Prime Minister on Tuesday, the logjam has been cleared for formation of the government.
