Nomadic Family Struck by Grief in Tunnel Collision, Livestock Lost
Ramban, 11 April 2025: In a tragic incident on Friday, six members of a nomadic family sustained injuries, and 20 livestock, including sheep and goats, lost their lives in a collision inside the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The accident occurred when a vehicle rammed into a load carrier transporting the family and their animals.
The injured individuals, identified as Mohd Ashraf (65), Refa Bibi (50), Saida Bibi (25), Umra Bibi (18), Wajid (27), and another family member, were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital. Officials have confirmed that their injuries are minor, and their condition is stable.
The Chenani-Nashri Tunnel, spanning 9.28 kilometers, is a vital link connecting Chenani and Nashri towns. The accident has raised concerns about road safety within the tunnel, which sees heavy traffic daily. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
