J&K Chief Justice Advocates Collaborative Efforts to Combat Drug Abuse

– Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, Justice Tashi Rabstan, has called for a united and integrated approach to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse in the region. Speaking at a seminar organized by the J&K High Court Bar Association in collaboration with the Criminologists Society of J&K, Justice Rabstan emphasized the need for collective action involving the judiciary, legal fraternity, and civil society.

  • Educational Initiatives: Justice Rabstan shared plans to educate students in schools and colleges through innovative methods such as nukkad nataks, skits, and panel discussions. He stressed the importance of raising awareness at the grassroots level.
  • Role of Legal Fraternity: Terming lawyers as the backbone of society, the Chief Justice urged them to actively contribute to combating drug abuse. He highlighted the role of new criminal laws in creating deterrence and dismantling drug networks.
  • Counseling and Rehabilitation: Justice Sanjeev Kumar, who presided over the seminar, advocated for counseling and alternate therapies for victims of drug addiction while suggesting strict punishment for drug peddlers.
  • Innovative Techniques: The Criminologists Society showcased yogic and meditational techniques piloted in District Jail Jammu, which have yielded encouraging results in rehabilitating addicts.

Collaborative Approach Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

The seminar, held under the Central Government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, brought together judicial officers, advocates, and members of civil society to discuss strategies for combating drug abuse. Justice Rabstan emphasized that a collaborative approach is essential to address the issue effectively.
