The state government today constituted a high-level monitoring committee for the preservation and protection of the Dal Lake in Srinagar.
The committee has been assigned the task to devise a permanent mechanism for preserving and protecting the lake. It would monitor and oversee the implementation of this mechanism.
The 11-member committee comprises Chief Secretary, J&K, as its chairman, Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development Department, Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, Principal Secretary, Forest Department, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, commissioner/secretaries of housing and urban development, finance and law, justice and parliamentary affairs departments, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, and secretary, Tourism Department, as its members. The vice-chairman, Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), will be the member-secretary of the panel.
The committee may co-opt any officer in its deliberations as special invitee. It will be serviced by the LAWDA.
