Revised power outage schedule for summers, 1.5 & 3 hrs curtailment in metered & non-metered areas respectively

3 hours in non-metered areas, 1.5 hours in metered areas, 24/7 power supply to tourist places, essential commercials areas, Will try to provide uninterrupted power supply in Ramadan: CE KPDCL

The government is planning to reduce power curtailment in the Valley from the current 7 hours outage in non-metered areas to 3.5 hours with the onset of the summer – which usually witness low load shedding compared to winter months. The metered areas will witness 1.5 hours from the current 3 hours daily outage.

There will be no power curtailment at the tourist resorts and commercial areas in the valley during summer.

During winter months, the power department had announced a five-hour daily power cut per in metered areas and 7.5 hours outage in non-metered areas.

Talking to Kashmir Post, Chief Engineer Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Ajaz Ahmad Dar, said that they are running a trial to check load shedding in all the districts before revising the power curtailment schedule for the summer.

“It all depends how will people cooperate. The less usage of electric heating gadgets at homes, the more power we will be supplied,” Dar said.

There was a requirement of around 2100 MWs of electricity in the Valley and KPDCL is in a position to provide only 1500 MWs.

Dar said that they would try to provide an uninterrupted power supply in the month of Ramadan.

“If people make judicious use of electricity, we will try to provide uninterrupted electricity in the Ramadan,” he said. “I appeal to people to cooperate with us.”

Due to persistent cold weather conditions in Kashmir, Government had continued with the power curtailment scheduled till end of the March.
