GOI’s top priority is peace with zero tolerance for militancy: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that ensuring peace in the state was the top priority of the Centre and assured that results on ground would be seen in the next month. He has also said the Centre would act tough against terror funding and there would be more raids by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the state.

“He (Shah) told us peace was his priority. He said he had passed strict instructions to the officers to ensure peace. You will see results in next one month… a lot of difference will be seen on ground. There will be more action against terror funding and more NIA raids,” a senior BJP leader told the Tribune after a meeting with Shah.

Around 40 BJP leaders, including state party president Ravinder Raina and former ministers, met the Home Minister at SKICC on the banks of the Dal Lake on the concluding day of Shah’s two-day Kashmir visit.

The BJP leader said they raised several issues ranging from drug menace to militancy in the Jammu region’s Kishtwar district. “We pointed to several things like rise in drug menace that is one of the reason for youth taking up militancy. There was also a demand for strict action against militancy in Kishtwar. We feel a lot has been done to tackle militancy in Kashmir and the same approach should be adopted in Kishtwar. Other issues were raised too, but the main focus of the meeting remained on development,” a leader said.

BJP state general secretary (organisation) Ashok Koul said the focus of the meeting was peace and development. “The Home Minister told us that they (Central government) will work for peace and development, but the (BJP) party too has a responsibility. He said the local leadership should ensure that the benefit of schemes reach the people. He said the Centre was thinking about the youth and will come up with various schemes for them,” said Koul, who also attended the meeting with Shah.

BJP media in charge Manzoor Bhat said they were told that the workers should reach out and make people aware about the Central schemes.
