Kishtwar facing ecological imbalance due to development of power projects: Legislative Council Panel

The Committee on Petition of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today said that Kashtiwar district is is facing brunt of ecological imbalance and negative effects of development process due to the Power Projects on the Chenab Basin.
According to an official spokesperson, the meeting of the Legislative Panel Committee on the petition was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Saif-ud-din Bhat to examine the issues relating to a petition of BK Thakur on behalf of people of Marwah-Dachchan and Kishtwar on Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPP). The meeting held threadbare discussion on the issues highlighted in the petition.
Legislators, GhulamNabiMonga, Sham LalBhagat, Firdous Ahmed Tak and Javid Ahmed Mirchal attended the meeting and gave their suggestions for early redressal of the issues highlighted in the Petition.
According to the spokesperson, it was general consensus of the committee that Kishtwar is facing brunt of ecological imbalance and negative effect of development process due to the Power Projects as such the sentiments of local population be given special emphasis.
The Committee decided to pay on-the-spot visit at the Pakhal-Dul-Keru-Kitwar Hydro Electrical Power Projects in Chenab basin in district Kishtwar after the budget session for studying the situation on ground to address the related issues.
The Committee also called upon the management of Chenab Valley Power Projects to consider 5 percent reservation in their employment for the youth of Kishtwar District, besides addressing other important issues related to compensation of land etc to the affected people.
The Committee specifically directed for appropriate steps by the Chenab Valley Power Projects authorities for the proper rehabilitation of the affected families due to power projects in Chenab River basin in Marwah-Dachchan
Managing Director, JKPDC, Shah Faesal and Managing Director, CVPP M S Babu briefed the committee on the issues related to rehabilitation of locals whose land and assets were affected due to power projects.
Among others, Chief (HR), M K Pauluse, G M (Planning), P B Jain, A M (Environment), Dr. Ravi Sharma and other senior officers of CVPP, PDD, besides, Special Secretary, Legislative Council, Mohammad Ashraf Wani, Deputy Secretary, Council BansiLalPandita, senior officers of Council Secretariat were present in the meeting.
