Nine arrested for posing with Pakistan flags in photo

Police has registered an FIR against the nine men, many of them students, and seized the handmade flag and the vehicle they were travelling in.

Nine men were arrested on Monday after they posed for photographs with a Pakistani flag in the hill-resort of Pahalgam in Anantnag district in south Kashmir.

A senior Anantnag district police officer told  “The young men are from Chadoora area of Budgam district and they were taking pictures for fun with the flag while on a tour to the hill station.”

Police has registered an FIR against the nine men, many of them students, and seized the handmade flag and the vehicle they were travelling in.

“Investigations are on to ascertain how they procured the flag and what is their background” the officer added.

Sources said the youth don’t have prior cases of stone-pelting or anti-social activities filed against them.

The incident comes a month after members of a local cricket team were detained after a video clip surfaced on social media, showing them wearing the Pakistani team’s jersey with the neighbouring country’s national anthem playing in the background.

Earlier in February, a video clip of Pakistan’s anthem sung by two Kashmiri musicians using traditional instruments went viral on social media in Kashmir.
