Kashmiri Students allege harassment in Haryana College

A group of Kashmiri students studying in Swami Dev Dyal Group of Institutes Haryana Tuesday accused the college administration of harassment.
Amir Bhat, a 6th semester B.Tech student told Kashmir Post from Haryana that he was harassed by the HoD Shuti Kanth Sharma of Civil Department of the college in which he is enrolled.
“I went to get my admit card for the ongoing examination in the college on Tuesday morning. When I reached the campus, they did not give me the admit card,” he said.
“The HoD of the department came, shouted, harassed and used derogatory words,” he alleged.
Bhat said he was ill and had cleared all the formalities in the college to appear in the examination of 6th semester.
“There is a norm in the college that if a student has zero percent attendance he has can pay fine and take part in the examination.”
“I cleared examination, hostel, and library charges but I fail to understand why I was not given admit card,” said the student.
The institute is located in Barwalla in Panchkala district of Haryana.
Another student Shoib from Pulwama said that it is not for the first time they are facing harassment at the hands of college administration.
He is pursing B.Tech in the same institute.
“There are a lot of heart-wrenching stories with us,” he said.
He also said five days ago the college administration canceled admission of around 50 students including five students from Kashmir due to unknown reasons.
“They were admitted fraudulently and were given fraud admit cards to appear in the examination. But when the results were declared their names were nowhere,” he added.
Refuting the allegations Shuti Kanth Sharma told Kashmir Post that there is absolutely no issue.
“Nobody has been harassed. If some student does not attend the classes he has to pay fine and if he does not pay the fine he does not get the roll number slip,” he said.
He said that the concerned student has zero attendance and has never come to class.
Principal of the college Narendar Kumar refused to comment on the issue. “If there is any problem they should email me and I will then act accordingly,” he said.
