Strong informer base helping in militant killings, says IGP

Strong informer base helping in militant killings, says IGPThe Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday credited its “strong informer base” and “robust intelligence grid” for “successful killing of militants in joint operations” in Kashmir.

“We had many successful anti-militancy operations this year, so far. The credit for this goes to our robust intelligence grid and our very strong informer base. Our main aim is to keep the militants on the run and not allow them to settle at one place. This helps us to zero in on them very easily,” said Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police, Syed JavidMujtaba Gilani.

He said there are some more militants left in the Burhan-led group of Hizb militants, including Burhan who is at large.

A police official claimed that Burhan is hiding in South Kashmir and “efforts are on to track his movement.”

Police sources revealed that over the past many years, police has “worked hard to strengthen its intelligence grid with special focus on informer base.”

“This strong informer base has started yielding good results; no doubt they (informers) get good rewards later,” they said.

Interestingly, the cash reward for killing of “most wanted militants” was recently hiked, a police official said.

“The reward for killing a most-wanted militant listed in ‘A plus-plus’ category has been enhanced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12.5 lakh. The cash reward for all other categories of militants—‘A plus’, ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’— has been enhanced as well and fixed at Rs 7.5 lakh,” the sources said.

Meanwhile, IGP Gilani said after “fresh inputs of infiltration and reports of possible attacks, security has been heightened across Kashmir including the summer capital Srinagar.”
