Government urged to install speed governors in commercial vehicles

A member of the National Road Safety Council, Kamaljit Soi, appealed to the state government to install speed governor in all the commercial vehicles of the state.
Government urged to install speed governors in commercial vehiclesSoi said the India was on the top in the list of accidental deaths despite having less than 7 per cent of vehicles in the world and in J&K the number of road accidental deaths was five times more than the deaths due to terrorism-related incidents.
“As per our records about 200 people die in a year in militancy related incidents in J&K about 1,100 people die in road accidents. 45-50 per cent accidents occur due to speeding and most of them by the commercial vehicles,” Soi said.
As per MORTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) accident statistics of 2014, Jammu & Kashmir accounted for 5,861 accidents with 928 accidental deaths.
As per the National Crime Records Bureau report for the year 2014, in J&K 5,830 road accidents took place leading to 1,030 deaths and injuries to 7,958 persons.
