BJP to take call on supporting Mehbooba after the mourning

Rubbishes rumours of party leaders demanding rotational chief ministership

A day after the passing away of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary Ram Madhav today held a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti.
BJP to take call on supporting Mehbooba after the mourningBesides offering his condolences, Madhav said they held deliberations over the future of the PDP-BJP coalition government even as the BJP said they would decide their future strategy vis-à-vis extending support to Mehbooba as J&K Chief Minister after the mourning period of four days got over.
“I went to offer condolence…we also held discussions over the future of the government…..I will share other details in due course of time,” Madhav told reporters after meeting Mehbooba.
During the hour-long meeting with Mehbooba, Madhav was accompanied by senior BJP leaders Avinash Rai Khanna and Nirmal Singh.
Later in the evening, Madhav also held a meeting with the top brass of the state unit of the BJP. Even though the meeting as per sources had been called to take a decision on extending support to Mehbooba, the BJP decided to hold deliberations in this regard next week after the four-day mourning period of Mufti’s death.
BJP state president Sat Sharma said Madhav and Khanna arrived here late due to bad weather and they could not hold a discussion ‘on the subject’ for which the meeting was called.
“We have now decided that since the mourning period is going on and we are a part of the coalition government, we will decide (on support to Mehboba) after ‘chautha’ (fourth day of mourning). In the meeting, there was no discussion on who should be the Chief Minister or other issues. We will decide these issues after the mourning period,” Sharma said. Sharma dismissed rumours that some BJP leaders were demanding a rotational chief minister.
