Anti-BJP Karra holds one-on-one meeting with PDP president

Conveys his reservations on continuing alliance with saffron party

Anti-BJP Karra holds one-on-one meeting with PDP presidentAs suspense continues to grow over government formation, senior Peoples Democratic Party leader and Member of Parliament Tariq Hameed Karra, who is against continuation of alliance with the BJP, had a one-on-one meeting with party president Mehbooba Mufti.
During the meeting on Tuesday evening, sources said, Karra conveyed his “reservations and apprehensions” about continuing the alliance with the BJP, pleading that the party should take a final call and not form the government with the BJP.
The sources said Karra suggested to the party president that either the PDP should tie up with secular forces or go to people seeking a fresh mandate. They should admit to the people that they committed a wrong by aligning with the right-wing BJP.
The closed-door meeting between Mehbooba and Karra, which lasted for over an hour, indicates that the PDP president is still weighing her options and is possibly still undecided about the government formation, said the sources.
“Yes, I met Mehboobaji on Tuesday,” MP Karra said. He, however, did not reveal what transpired during the meeting. “My views on the alliance with the BJP are known in public domain, you can refer to them any time,” he said.
Mehbooba, who has already been authorised by her party to take a final call on government formation, made it clear during the extended core group meeting on Sunday to the senior party leaders that she was not in a hurry to form the government.
