Make sports part of curricula: Governor

Governor NN Vohra inaugurated the second state-level Governor’s Silver Rolling Volley Ball Championship Trophy at Government Degree College in Udhampur.
Make sports part of curricula - GovernorA total of 24 teams from various degree colleges of the Jammu and Kashmir regions are competing for the trophy. Pawan Gupta, Minister of State for Finance, was present on the occasion.
Complimenting the principal of the college and welcoming the participating teams, the Governor observed that sports activities should be an important part of the curricula of all educational institutions and they should strive to organise regular sports activities.
Vohra exhorted the organisers to ensure participation of teams from the Ladakh region and other far-flung areas of the state in the tournament, particularly from the colleges in rural areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar districts.
Emphasising the significance of sports and games, the Governor observed that games provided an opportunity to the youth to develop a sound character, healthy mind and body and promoted leadership, camaraderie and lasting friendships among the youth.
The Governor watched the exhibition volley ball match between the teams of Government Degree College, Udhampur, and Government College for Physical Education, Ganderbal.
He complimented the players for their performance and presented medals to both teams.
Earlier, on his arrival, the Governor was presented a guard of honour. The inaugural function started with the unfurling of the championship flag by the Governor.
A cultural programme comprising folk dances of the state was presented by the students of Government Degree College, Udhampur.
Principal, Government Degree College, Udhampur, SS Bhalwal presented the welcome address and Tariq Ahmad Kawoos, Director, Colleges, presented the vote of thanks.
