NC criticises Mufti for defending BJP, RSS

The National Conference (NC) on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for defending the BJP and RSS and said this was not the voice of people who had voted for him.

“The impression that Mufti wants to create within and outside the country is totally wrong. It is Mufti’s personal voice and not the voice of people who had voted for him,” said NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar.

He said Mufti and the PDP had asked for votes to stop the march of the BJP. “People of the country should not be misled that a Muslim-majority state is defending the BJP and RSS and their ideology and political philosophy,” he said.

The NC leader’s criticism of the Chief Minister was in reaction to Mufti’s praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister had praised the Prime Minister, the BJP and RSS on several occasions this week.

Sagar said “official machinery is being used” to stage a “deceptive, misleading show”. “Mufti is trying to show that we are with the forces against whom the entire country is united,” he said.

Sagar criticised the Chief Minister for failing in his slogan of “battle of ideas”. “What show does Mufti want to project? For the first time in history, 800 persons have been detained in Srinagar. He wants to implement the silence of a graveyard and create the impression of a successful rally,” the NC leader said.

He alleged that the crowd was being “managed” for the Prime Minister’s rally, scheduled to take place in the city on Saturday. “Kashmir is being turned into a jail,” he said.

Sagar described Kashmir as a political issue and said the Prime Minister should talk about restoring peace and friendship with Pakistan. He was accompanied by NC’s Kashmir zone president Nasir Aslam Wani and spokesman Junaid Mattu.
