Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Hassan Samoon today flagged off a roadshow to sensitise people about devastating effects of drug addiction and other social evils.
The show was organised by the Shehr-i-Khaas Welfare Coordination Committee, an official said.
The roadshow started from the Nowhatta Chowk and concluded at Auqaf Market, Tujgari Mohalla, Nowahata.
A large number of senior citizens, shopkeepers, women, students and people from different walks of life participated in the event.
The Divisional Commissioner said drug addiction and existence of other social evils were like a black spot on society. He said there was need to spread awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse and efforts must be made to get society rid of the menace.
Samoon said it was the responsibility of the parents as well to look after their children and pay attention to their activities.
He also appealed the mohalla committees to organise programmes in their localities to make people aware of the harmful effects of drug addiction.
The official also suggested organising seminars, debates and rallies in schools, colleges and universities to make students aware about the harm caused by such addiction.
