Over 12,000 candidates from Jammu and Kashmir appeared in the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination on Sunday which were held in two sessions at 26 centres across the state.
“A total of 12208 candidates appeared in the examinations which were conducted smoothly,” Shakeel -ul-Rehman, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) – which conducted the examination, told PTI.
Rehman said a total of 20180 candidates had applied for the examination, out of which 460 were found to be ineligible.
“19720 candidates were eligible to sit in the examinations which were conducted over two sessions ? one each for General and Optional subjects,” he said.
He said out of the 19720, 12208 candidates appeared in the examinations, while a total of 7512 candidates did not appear.
“In Jammu region out of the 11679 total eligible candidates, 7199 were present while 4480 were absent. In Srinagar, out of 8041 eligible candidates, 5009 appeared in the examinations while 3032 did not,” he said.
Rehman said while all the candidates, who appeared in General Studies paper in Srinagar, were present in the Optional paper as well, 40 candidates in Jammu region did not appear in the Optional paper after writing their General Studies paper.
He said the JKPSC had established 26 centres with 11 in Srinagar and 15 in Jammu for the conduct of examinations.
The official said there were no reports of unfair means ad the examination for both the papers was conducted smoothly.
