Fake degree mafia
Sunaina Malik
Among innumerable candidates of eligible, literate, unemployed youth of Jammu and Kashmir, fake degree holders are also one among this lot. Fake universities have created a web throughout that traps students who desire to acquire much through shortcuts. In other words these culprits are depriving the rightful candidates of their right to job and leave them to suffer throughout their lives. The story does not end here even the politicians are also a part of this prohibited act.
The Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Smriti Zubin Irani and recently arrested Delhi Law Minister Jatindera Tomar, have darkened the face of India by representing fake degrees. There is a long unending list of fake universities established that are not affiliated by University Grants Commission (UGC) India. In order to earn money they lure candidates to grant them degrees. In spite of knowing the fact, the act of providing and acquiring fake degrees is an offence under Indian Penal Code. This fake degree mafia is spreading its weedy roots everywhere. It is very astonishing to know where were the loophole lies that allow these condemnable institutions to flourish.
In addition to this, what would be the fate of that country whose HRD Minister is a part of this appalling act? As per written record, Smiriti Irani is alleged to furnish false information about her educational qualification in three affidavits filled with Election Commission of India during election for Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha. It is alleged that Irani, in her affidavit for 2004 Lok Sabha polls said that, “she has completed her BA in 1996 from Delhi University (DU) (school of correspondence).” In another affidavit to contest Rajya Sabha election from Gujarat, she stated that, “her highest educational qualification is B.Com part 1 from school of correspondence DU.” Story does not end here, in her affidavit for nomination for 2014 Lok Sabha election from Amethi, Irani said that, “she has completed Bachelor of commerce part 1 from school of open learning DU.” This is not the only case of fraudulent representation but there is a long list of fake representation of qualification in the system.
Jammu and Kashmir is also darkened by fake degree holders. It is pertinent to mention here that due to revolutionary steps of screening of degrees of ReT teachers, the Education Minister has opened a new era in the history of education in Jammu and Kashmir. Government order of screening of degrees has hanged a sword of punishment over fraudulent employees, who are enjoying State’s economy and depriving eligible state subjects from their right to employment.
In addition to this, there is a long list of government teachers who are enjoying the Master Grade status and other higher grades on the basis of fake degrees from bogus universities, study centers and unaffiliated institutions. It is therefore requested to good self of Honorable Education Minister to issue an order for screening of degrees of even general line teachers and culprit should be punished. Certainly, this step would open new ways for eligible candidates to serve State education system.
It is a ripe time for all the aspiring students that before approaching any university for admission, he or she has to go through complete knowledge about the status of institution approached, so here is a data released by University Grant Commission regarding fake universities of India for 2015. As per the data, State of Utter Pradesh has topped in the list of bogus universities.
