Tarigami Sounds Alarm on Laws Eroding Regional Democracy

Tarigami Warns: Disempowering Laws in J&K Threaten India’s Democracy

Srinagar, October 16, 2023
– CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami has raised concerns over the recent introduction of laws aimed at disempowering the region of Jammu and Kashmir. According to Tarigami, these laws not only undermine the rights and autonomy of the people in the region but also pose a significant threat to the democratic system of the entire country.

In a statement, Tarigami emphasized that the erosion of regional autonomy could have broader implications for democracy in India. “The introduction of these laws is a direct attack on the democratic values that our country stands for. It is essential to protect the rights and autonomy of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the preservation of our democratic system,” he said.

The recent political developments in Jammu and Kashmir have sparked widespread debate and concern among various political leaders and citizens. As the region awaits the formation of a new government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, the impact of these disempowering laws remains a critical issue.
