Biker hurt after being hit by Army vehicleClashes erupted on the outskirts of Srinagar at Lawaypora this morning after an Army vehicle hit and injured a motorcyclist on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
The police had to resort to aerial firing and teargas shelling to disperse the protesters at Lawapora, 10 km from Srinagar, who were protesting against the Army driver. Motorcyclist Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Check-e-Kawoosa, was injured when he was hit by an Army vehicle at Lawapora. He was shifted to a hospital. However, as the news of the accident spread, people thronged the highway and staged a protest. They threw stones at the Army vehicle. Later, the protesters also blocked the highway, leading to a massive traffic jam. They threw stones on the police as well. “The traffic on the highway was restored in the afternoon,” a police officer said, adding a case had been registered in the matter.
