Haft Chinar traders observe shutdown against traffic diversionTraders of Haft Chinar on Thursday observed a shutdown against the traffic diversion on the route saying it has affected their business.

A large number of shopkeepers observed a shutdown in the area against the traffic diversion due to construction of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover.

The shopkeepers later held protest in the area and later gathered at Press Enclave here to press for their rehabilitation. The protesting traders claimed that the suspension of the traffic on the said route has hit their business.

Later, a group of traders and shopkeepers from Haft Chinar met Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone. Muhammad Sadiq Baqal, former president Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Association (KTMF), who was leading the delegation apprised the DC about problems of the traders.

“Our business has been already hampered by construction of the flyover. Now the traffic diversion has added to our woes. We are against this move and if our problems are not addressed, we will intensify our agitation in the coming days,” Baqal said.

Haji Nisar, president of Solina Traders Association said 350 traders in the area have been badly hit due to the traffic diversion.

“While the compensation forms were distributed among shopkeepers by the ERA recently, but in case the compensation is not time bound, we will start an agitation,” Nisar said.
