For the third consecutive day, Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district observed a spontaneous shutdown to mourn the death of three local Hizbul Mujahideen militants killed on Monday.
According to GNS Correspondent, all the shops, commercial establishments, schools and banks were closed in Bijbehara, which is the hometown of Chief Minister Muhammad Sayeed. The shutdown also affected vehicular movement in the area.
On Monday this week, three militants identified as Sartaj Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone residents of Wopzan, Bijbehara, Adil Ahmad Sheikh son of Fayaz Ahmad resident of Sheikh Mohalla, Bijbehara and Tanveer Ahamd Bhat son of Mubarak Ahmad Bhat resident of Baba Mohalla Bijbehara were killed in a brief encounter at Aishmuqam area of Pahalgam in Anantnag district.
In order to prevent large scale protests, the authorities today again had deployed large number of government forces in strength in the area. Due to shutdown and forces deployed, the area wore a deserted look while scores of people thronged the houses of slain militants to express sympathy with their families.
On Tuesday, thousands of people staged massive protests in area during and after the funeral of militants. The protesters had also hoisted a Pakistani flag on the ancestral house of Chief Minister in the Town. (GNS)
