‘Udhampur attack was reaction to his beef party’

PDP blames Er Rashid for Zahid’s deathRuling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday blamed independent legislator from Langate, Engineer Rashid for the death of Zahid Rasool Bhat.
“Zahid Rasool Bhat and Showkat Ahmad were attacked in Udhampur on October 9 after he (Rashid) hosted a beef party in MLA Hostel in Srinagar,” said Peerzada Mansoor, Political Advisor to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
He said the beef party provoked people in Jammu region following which they attacked the Kashmir-bound truck by petrol bomb in which two truckers were critically injured.
“Despite a Supreme Court order on the beef ban, Rashid hosted a beef party which flared up tension in Jammu region. And the hooligans in Udhampur reacted to the party by attacking Kashmiri drivers,” he said adding Udhampur attack was a “reaction” to the beef party.
Zahid and Showkat were injured when mob attacked a Kashmir-bound truck in Shivnagar in Udhampur on October 9 with petrol bomb. Zahid succumbed to burn injuries in Safdargunj hospital in New Delhi on October 18.
Mansoor asked MLA Langate as to why he did not host the ‘beef party’ at his home.
“Hosting beef party at MLA hostel was a clear indication of provoking people in the Jammu region,” he said.
The former legislator of Shangus Assembly segment said no power on earth can stop Muslims from eating what is a permitted in their religion.
He also said that people should not play political drama over the lives of people. (KNS)
