Congress on Wednesday alleged that the BJP, which is part of the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, adopted “foul means” to sabotage the movement for AIIMS in Jammu spearheaded by AIIMS Coordination Committee and threatened to take the agitation to Delhi.
Senior vice president of JK Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Sham Lal Sharma, told reporters here that the BJP made “vague” announcements to weaken the movement.
“The BJP leadership, time and again, gave commitments to fulfil the demand of the people but their real intention behind such commitments and vague announcements was aimed at weakening the movement, hoping that it would fizzle-out slowly,” he said.
“All sorts of tactics including coercive and undemocratic methods were adopted. Even the peaceful ‘dharna’ of the Coordination Committee was also forcibly lifted from the original site,” he said.
Announcing to further intensify the stir, the Senior Congress leader said that if necessary orders were not issued till August 25, the Congress workers would moblise people to ‘gherao’ the houses of ministers and legislators.
Sharma threatened to moblise lakhs of people and lead a march and a subsequent ‘dharna’ at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
“Congress would moblise lakhs of people to march to Delhi and organise a big ‘dharna’ at Jantar Mantar,” he said.
Sharma hit out at Narendra Modi-led government for “failure” to issue formal notification as per the provision of the AIIMS Act for setting up of a separate and independent institution of AIIMS in Jammu.
