LAHDC bans construction along tourist hotpick Pangong Lake

The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, which governs the district politically, has decided not to allow any construction near the world-famous Pangong Lake in the Ladakh region. The move follows a Jammu and Kashmir High Court order that directed removal of all illegal business establishments close to the lake “to ensure sustainable tourism” in the area. Cloudburst hits Leh; one killed

A young Nepali boy was killed and public property was damaged when a cloudburst hit Alchinathang Yokma and Alchinathang Gongma villages, 135 km from Leh, today. The cloudburst led to flash floods which damaged irrigation canals, bridges, roads and water supply schemes in several villages in the area. Three Israeli nationals, including a woman, who lost contact with their embassy during trekking in Leh district, were traced by a search party of district administration and police officials late last night. A soldier is missing and another is in critical condition after an Army patrol party was hit by an avalanche in Leh’s Turtuk on Friday morning. The Army has launched a search operation for the missing soldier.
