The city administration today announced a “no-entry zone” for vehicular traffic on the Residency Road from Radio Kashmir to the Hari Singh High Street, which will come into force from September 21, ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha.
The police said in a statement that the restrictions on traffic movement and diversions would be imposed in view of the ensuing Eid-ul-Azha as “tens of thousands of vehicles are expected to throng the city hub at Lal Chowk”. The traffic police had made elaborate arrangements to discourage traffic jams on the Residency Road and MA Road stretches with effect from September 21 till the conclusion of Eid-ul-Azha prayers.
No-entry zone: No vehicular traffic shall be allowed to ply on the Residency Road from Radio Kashmir to the Hari Singh High Street.
Public transport routes:
All Lal Chowk-bound commercial vehicles approaching from Soura, Hazaratbal and Harwan shall adopt the following routes after converging at Badyari Chowk:
(a) Badyari Chowk-MA Bridge-MA Road-Budshah Bridge. At Budshah Bridge all vehicles shall take a U-turn immediately below the flyover and shall proceed back along the Budshah Bridge-Maisuma-Madina Chowk-Exchange Road-Barbarshah-Baba Dharam Dass temple.
(b) At Baba Dharam Dass temple vehicles bound for Soura and onwards shall take a left turn towards Babademb and onwards.
(c) At Baba Dharam Dass temple the vehicles bound for Hazaratbal shall adopt the Khonakhan-Khanyar route for onward journey.
(d) At Baba Dharam Dass temple the vehicles bound for Nishat, Harwan, shall follow the Khonakhan- Badyari Chowk route for onward journey.
All Lal Chowk-bound commercial vehicles approaching from Pampore, Panthachowk and Batawara shall adopt the following route after reaching Sonwar: Sonwar-Radio Kashmir-TRC-Golf Crossing-MA Road-Budshah Bridge and shall take the flyover route to reach Batamaloo and on return shall adopt the Fire Service-Flyover-Budshah Bridge-Maisuma-Madina Chowk-Exchange Road-Barbarshah-Baba Dharam Dass temple-SRTC Crossing-Dalgate-Syed Sahib Sonwar route.
All Batmalloo-bound vehicles coming from Budgam, Rangreth, Humhama, Chadoora, Kralpora, Natipora, Sanatnagar and Rawalpora after reaching Sherghari shall adopt Exhibition-Secretariat Road to reach Batamalloo and on return they shall follow the Reck Chowk, P/S Sharegari-Iqbal Park-Bakshi Stadium-LD Hospital-Lal Mandi-Jawahir Nagar-Jawahir Nagar Bund-Rambagh bridge route.
All JVC-HMT bound vehicles shall take the Tatoo Ground-Batamalloo route and on return shall take U-turn at the Secretariat crossing.
Private vehicles and parking: Private vehicles approaching Lal Chowk shall have an elaborate parking arrangement in and around the city centre, which are as follow:
(a) The Residency Road right from Radio Kashmir up to the Hari Singh High Street shall be declared one-way for LMVs with entry at the Hari Singh High Street nd exit point at Fancy Fabrics, Regal Chowk, Polo View lane and no vehicle shall be allowed to enter the Residency Road from the Radio Kashmir side.
(b) Parking spaces, like Sheikh Bagh, Press Enclave, Polo Ground (East/West), Polo View parking, Khalisa High School, Along Market near V-Mart and Sheri Kashmir Stadium could be utilised.
(c) All shopkeepers and business establishments of the Lal Chowk area shall park their vehicles before 9 am at the authorised and designated parking places.
