The government has decided to take CBSE route to baptize students of SP Higher Secondary School and Amira Kadal Girls Higher Secondary School that remained in news for student protests and stone-pelting against rights violations.
The two schools in the heart of the summer capital, Srinagar remained in news for frequent student protests and stone pelting and rights violations last year.
Now the State government is trying an image makeover of the two schools by making them model schools with switchover to Central Board of School Education (CBSE) pattern.
Presently, both the institutions are run under the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education’s The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum.
According to the State government, the decision has been taken so that these institutions are “not remembered for all the wrong reasons”.
Talking to Kashmir Post, Minister for Education, Syed Altaf Bukhari while confirming them move to Kashmir Post, said four government-run schools had been selected to be switched to CBSE curriculum.
“We have many plans in place to uplift school education in State, and in Kashmir we have selected SP Higher Secondary School and Amira Kadal Girls Higher Secondary School for CBSE affiliation from the new academic session,” Bukhari said.
He said the aim was to prepare students of these schools to be able to compete at all-India level.
Bukhari said the rest of two schools had been identified in Jammu region.
