Parvez Rasool, cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir who has played in the Indian Premier League, made this Sunday big for over a thousand cricketers at the sprawling Bajalta play-field, the venue of the first Maruti Suzuki Nagrota Premier League, an initiative of MLA Devender Singh Rana.
On the eighth day of the tournament, declared open by the National Conference Working President and former Chief Minister Mr Omar Abdullah, the right hand and off break bowler Parvez arrived at the pitch, amid huge applause of the players of Nagrota Assembly Constituency and thousands of cricket lovers and gave tips to the budding players. He acquainted them about the significance of T-20, saying the effort should be to complete the stipulated overs in one and a half hours.
“This will place you in good stead to play at the state and the national level”, he said while urging the players to make it happen right from the ongoing tournament, which has been organised to transform Nagrota Constituency as a big sports cum tourism destination with an avowed objective of giving fillip to the entire area.
Parvez Rasool, who got his maiden call up for the national team in 2013 for the Zimbabwe team answered the queries of the enthusiastic cricketers who asked him about various aspects of the game. He also shared his own experiences with them while enumerating how he grew from virtually a street-player to participate in the events played in high profile pitches around the world. He said commitment to the game and devotion to net practice was imperative for them to make their mark during the events they will be participating in upcoming days.
The much admired cricketer, Parvez Rasool, who played on behalf of the Indian national team against Bangladesh, assured the cricketers that they will find him amid them whenever they require his services for fine-tuning the game. He said the holding of the Maruti Suzuki Nagrota Premier League Tournament will go a long way in identifying the talent, which if polished by experts in the game, will make Jammu and Kashmir proud in days and years to come.
The cricketers and the fans jostled around Parvez Rasool to seek his autographs and selfees. He ensured to reach out all by making himself one amongst them on the field.
The first match was played between Krishanpur Jaguar and Sher-e-Kashmir Khanpur Tigers. Krishanpur Jaguar won the toss and elected to field first.
Sher-e-Kashmir Khanpur Tigers scored 121 runs in prescribed 14 overs loosing 7wickets. Shakoor and Ashfaq scored 36 and 30 runs respectively.
Krishanpur Jaguar failed to chase the target and only managed to score 110 runs in 14 overs losing 7 wickets.
Sher-e-Kashmir Khanpur Tigers Won the match by 12 runs.
Blistering Ashfaq’s 30 runs in 12 balls with 4 sixes was declared man of the match.
The second match was played between Baba Phed Kattal Batal Kinds and Bamyal Incredibles
Bamyal Incredibles won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 82 runs losing all wickets in 13.2 overs. Vinay was the top scorers with 17 runs
Baba Phed Kattal batal Kings chased the target in 9 overs losing 5 wickets only. Vishal for his 24 runs and 4 wickets was declared man of the match.
The matches were officiated by Pankaj Sasun and Suresh Singh from J&K Youth Services & Sports.
Member BCCI Ranjeet Kalra and former Ranji Player Kuldeep Singh Jamwal were also present besides Sarpanch Bajalta Ch Rehmat Ali , Sarpanch Surinsar Subash Singh were also present.
Both the matches were played under the overall supervision of Faheem Tak, Vice President Take-1 Channel and Member Organizing Committee.
